The First Steps Towards Creating An Internet Marketing Business
Posted June 30th, 2009

As a new internet marketer or even one who has tried your hand at it but has been singularly unsuccessful here are some first straight forward and uncomplicated steps to follow towards creating an action plan that is easy to work on.
The first step is to check whether you have the equipment such as a computer and access to the internet readily available. This business is not going to work if you depend on the internet café down the road. You will need to spend every available minute working this business. One hour in the library using a computer is just not going to cut it.
Your second step is to honestly look at the commitments that you have. Do you really have time for this? If you already work a full time job and have small children the chances that you will have serious amounts of time to spend on an internet marketing project are fairly remote. That is if you want to still have time to sleep!
If you have both the equipment and feel confident that you have the time to spend on this then start out having a look at what hobbies, skills and, yes, passions you have that you could share with other people.
This could be anything. If you love following celebrities and enjoy reading the tabloids starting a blog commenting on celebrities and their activities could be for you. Perez Hilton is one such example of a very successful online business that only comments on celebs.
If you are a passionate gardener this could be something you could translate into an online business. Home crafts are making a welcome come back. If you are an expert in knitting or embroidery you could very well create a small lucrative online presence for yourself.
The more passionate you are about your subject the easier it will be for you to keep on going even when you see little response at the beginning. It always takes time to spread the word and get your reputation out. Passion will help you to hang in at the beginning. Not only that, your passion will come through in what you write about and promote and that is always a crowd attracter.
It’s probably a good idea to check whether you have more than one passion. It could be to your advantage to have more than one site going at the same time. Or you might find that after you have worked through a business plan on one of your passions it might not be that easy to translate into an online business.
For instance if you want to talk about being a pool player which you watch on TV all the time and love, but have never actually ever played yourself, it might not be such a good idea to continue with an internet marketing business on this topic.
This is such an important step, it’s the very foundation of your possible online business, that it is advisable to spend a significant amount of time on it. Really work through your interests and ideas. See whether you will be able to keep your attention and focus going for a fair while or whether you can see yourself getting bored pretty quickly.
Setting yourself up for failure by being too quick with your decision can lead you to spend hours and hours working on an online business that is going to end up boring you to tears. Try not to waste your time in the long run by skimping on it at the beginning.
