7 Great Backlink Building Tips

netalot.com backlnksBacklinks are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or web page. Besides the significance that SEO, or search engine optimsation, places on a website’s backlinks, there may be other significant indicators attached in that these links show who is paying attention to that page.

1). Your first rule in building backlinks is that all your efforts need to look natural to the search engines. Provided your building efforts show a natural growth, search engines will support your efforts. After all they need those backlinks to determine how important your site is.

2). The further point to remember during your natural link building campaign is that your backlinks must be backed by something really valuable for search engines. Real value would be a link from a unique blog post or a site with heavy content within your niche for instance.

3). Ensure that your link is from a non-duplicate page. There are some sites that might need to use duplicate content. If a site is selling a product to for instance English speaking countries then each country site would have the same content with some elements of localisation.

Google might see a link from a site such as this as being a link from a duplicate page and might give it a lesser rating. It is therefore easier to make sure that your links come from non-duplicate pages.

4). Your backlink should be from a relevant site. There is some dispute about the validity of this point amongst some SEO people. However, it is probably safe to say that Google weights a link from a relevant site higher than one from a non-relevant site.

This means that if you have a site selling lawnmowers a link from a site that sells musical instruments might not be as effective as a site selling lawn fertiliser might be.

Google does support the principle that incoming links are harmless. That is a webmaster is not necessarily responsible as to who links to the site and should not be penalised. However, it still goes back to the basic concept that links need to be relevant to be most powerful.

5). Be careful that the backlink building is not too quick. Google’s spiders crawling your site will start to wonder if your backlinks are built too quickly. This is especially important when your site is still very new. Having a new site suddenly show up dozens or even hundreds of backlinks in a short time can look suspicious.

6). Anchor text links need to show a variety. Anchor texts are the words you use to hyperlink to your site. If you constantly use the same keywords then the search engines might start realising that this link has been manufactured. With other words it is not a natural link.

For instance if your keyword is lawn fertiliser and you use these two words everytime you link back to your site then it will start becoming obvious that a keyword is being promoted rather than a natural backlink being created.

7). The site or page to which you are building backlinks must have your main keyword, preferably in the title tag. If you are linking lawn fertiliser in the anchor text as this is your keyword, then you need to ensure that the page the hyperlink is targeting has this keyword in it.

Make sure you have selected keywords that do not have huge competition. If you are trying to compete against keywords used by big institutions such as banks or computers then you will not be able to achieve any significant benefit from your backlinks as you are competing against sites with huge numbers of backlinks.

Use the above tips to give your backlink building project a real boost and a chance to promote your website or page to the front of the Google search results.

Good post,
for me, using some blog directory and site like SEOkudos also a good idea. They minimally add one link to my posts.

Remember to speak about LSI when you are doing back links. If your keyword is lawn fertilizer, the link back with things related to lawn fertilizer and don’t be afraid to go for general gardening.
