Is Pay-Per-Click For You?
Posted July 30th, 2009
Pay-Per-Click, or PPC, advertising is a very good way to drive traffic directly to a sales page. If done right you should be able to drive some good profits at the same time. Some internet marketers only use this form of marketing, while others might not have the capital required to start with.
Here are some factors that you might want to consider when thinking about trying a PPC campaign.
PPC does give you the opportunity to appear on the first page of search results. This is of course not a given as it depends on how popular the search term is and how much you have bid to pay for your click through.
But in general it is possible to show up on the first page of Google search. In contrast, trying to reach the first page with natural search optimisation techniques can be a very lengthy and not always successful journey.
Appearing on the first page is particularly invaluable as most searchers do not click past the third page of their search. As users start entrusting their shopping more and more to the internet using PPC to land on the first page of a search could become a more opportune way of running your internet marketing business.
PPC advertising programs continue to become more user-friendly. Even for the new internet marketer, signing up to a Google AdWords campaign is not as complex as it used to be. Sign-up is fairly painless and many of the functions are automated.
For instance the bidding and budget allocations can be set. This means that should your keyword become more ‘expensive’ you may automatically stop your bid. You are also able to allocate a daily budget amount to ensure that you do not overspend on your campaigns.
One think you will need to have a talent for when using PPC is attention to detail. You need to allocate time to constantly update and monitor your account and ad performance. Experience will make this process quicker and easier, but nevertheless a PPC campaign is not something you can set up and leave to do its own thing.
In most cases as a new business person trying your hand at a PPC campaign you will end up losing some money. Allocate at least the first $100 or $200 towards your learning curve. It is unlikely that you will make enough money to cover your advertising costs.
There are many factors that contribute to experiencing failure. You need to have the right keywords, your advertising copy has to work for you and your sales page needs to be compelling and convert browsers to buyers. There is a fair amount of experience required to make this work for you.
One further point to remember is that you will need to be able to analyse your results. You need to be able to determine what ad copy works, what sales page is not working, why are there not more click throughs, why do you have click throughs but no sales and the permutations go on.
It will end up being all about tweaking every aspect of your campaign until you have discovered the winning combination of keyword selection, ad copy, sales page and conversion.

I would recommend trying out Adollo. They are fairly new but they have a really good platform set up. They are a social advertising network that ranks ads and ad spaces according to how the world uses them. They also don’t do Cost per Click. Instead, they let publishers rent out ad spaces to advertisers. I’ve been using them and I’ve been really impressed. They are also giving out $25 of free credit if you feel like advertising.
