Testing Your Niche Product Against Real Demand
Posted July 24th, 2009

You have decided on a niche, you’ve researched your appropriate keywords, and you are ready to start your marketing strategy. One final test though might still be worth conducting before you spend your valuable time on working your business.
Try out your proposed product range in the real world. Submit a test product to a shopping site such as Amazon.com or eBay. Track how customers are reacting to the offer and how willing they are to pay for it.
If you haven’t got a physical product as yet, do some research as to who might be selling your product. Check out their results, see how popular they are and how much of this particular product they are actually selling. This is fairly easy to do. Just type in the product name or brand name into the search field and see what comes up.
You may also wish to write a few test reviews of your selected product and post them on your blog and on article directories and see what response you get. It’s not a bad idea to use actual customers to review how popular a suggested product could be.
Forums provide a great place to feel out the opinions of actual customers. Visit forums about your topic and see what people are discussing. See what questions they are asking and what kind of issues the may be having. Finding out what problems people have could give you confirmation that your solution will find a market.
The topics being discussed will also help with your article writing task. You will be able to get ideas on what could be of interest to your target market and how to present your information and product in an attractive manner.
The keywords you discover while visiting and chatting on your topic could provide you with further marketing opportunities even as far as introducing a greater range of products or even entirely different products to meet the needs.
Finally, even though you are developing an idea and possible product for your internet marketing business, there is no harm in doing some live research with actual people in the offline environment.
If you are wanting to set up an online store for all different sport balls because you feel there is a huge call for these products, ask around in the real world. Find out from all types of users of sports balls as to where they get their balls from and what considerations they have to buying a ball online.
You could be selling tennis, golf, rugby, football or cricket balls. Check with sport shops and onsite pro shops at golf courses for instance. Talk to sport clubs and visit tennis courts to see how purchasing decisions are made. See where you can make contact with sports people and find out whether your online shop would have appeal.
At the end of the day your online business will depend on real customers living in the offline world wanting to buy their goods over the internet and hopefully from you.
