The Importance Of Keyword Tracking

keywordsOne of the first expressions a new internet marketer hears about is keyword. Besides the word he is also constantly reminded that keywords are extremely important. Any internet marketer who does not spend some time learning about keywords will find the going quite tough.

So what is it about keywords then? To provide a really easy example think of a burning candle in an otherwise dark house. The candle gives you some clues as to where you are and enables you to find your way to a specific destination.

Keywords serve the same function. By placing selected keywords in specific positions on a site, it enables the search engines to find the page. Not only do the search engines find the place where the keyword has been positioned but they also evaluate the page for relevance.

The important words in the content of a webpage are keywords, which is used by the users to search through search engines. When the user types a keyword in the search box, the search engines looks for the matching keyword in websites and brings out the desired result. Thus it is very important to websites.

Search engines, using their search algorithms also called spiders or bots, will crawl through each page deciding whether the keywords are relevant to the content or whether they could potentially be an inaccurate representation of the site’s actual content.

When you have found the right phrases, you will notice an increase in the amount of traffic to your site. When advertising agents notice that your site gets an unusually large number of hits, they will want to advertise in your site. Not only willyour business blossom but now, you have found a profitable side business too. If you want to know the truth, many sites are set up with the dream of earning an income solely by displaying ads.

Depending on this search and evaluation the search engine will produce a list of results with the first page showing, in descending order, what in it’s view is the most relevant result. These results are in response to a user typing in a search word or term.

What the search word or term boils down to are also known as keywords. How to determine what keywords users are searching for is what makes this a fairly complex study.

The term of SEO or search engine optimisation fits into this field of expertise. As an internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for.

Optimising a website primarily involves editing the content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

In the competitive environment of keyword selection and use it is now more effective for internet marketers to use specific keywords and phrases rather than a single keyword. Focusing on pink satin ballet shoes as your keywords rather than just on ballet shoes for instance would be a more winning solution.

In this instance you would have only 66 000 websites competing with your site on the search term pink satin ballet shoes. Using and promoting the keyword ballet shoes would give you 1.7 million competing results on a google search.

Make sure you have chosen the right set of keywords. Promoting your site, if you were to market ballet shoes for instance, would be much easier on the keywords of pink satin ballet shoes than on the keywords of ballet shoes. You would have far fewer sites to compete against and with an intelligent SEO strategy you should manage to get to the first page of the search.

There are several tools available to make your keyword search easier. Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool is useful. It does have a limitation in that it only provides keywords around the term you requested. Other tools on the market could provide you with related words and terms.

Deciding on your keywords is vitally important especially if you are wishing to start a career as an internet marketer. Do this before you spend many months on writing great articles and compiling good content on your niche topic. Align your niche with your keywords and promote these in articles and title tags and you have the start of a possible business.

One good thing to do is go to Google Analytics and see what keywords they associate with your site.

In Google Analytics go to traffic sources on the left – then click on key words to see the interesting funny or wacky terms people found you by.
