The one advantage the internet presents to the marketer is that it is possible to track results immediately. All marketing and sales effort may be checked for their effectiveness and improved upon whenever necessary.

As much as it is easy to track results it does require skill to be able to evaluate the results and adapt your campaigns accordingly. What do the figures represent, what do they mean and how can your campaign be changed to maximum effect?

Keeping your eye on the tracking results will result in making more money. And your tracking results should provide you with the following information.

The information should show you where your money is best spent and where you can receive the best and most positive return on investment. That is where are you getting the most bang for your bucks.

Your tracking results should show you which keywords, advertisements and overall campaigns produce the best results. You can test your advertising copy and the effectiveness of your landing page.

You can calculate the cost of each visitor. And it will show up whether you might have problems with a landing page or the website you are running your campaigns through.

Besides these benefits there are some mistakes that some people make when tracking that should be avoided. One of these is that you should not confuse the success of your click through rate with a conversion.

That means just because somebody has clicked on your ad, which of course costs you, doesn’t mean that you have a successful campaign. If your visitor does not take up your offer then you have purely wasted the advertising cost.

Counting click through is of course important, but some campaigns might bring many click throughs and no sales. Whereas an ad that brings through less traffic might result in higher conversions. So be aware of the importance of your conversion rate.

Make sure you don’t get bogged down in vague and general analytics. You need to track every single keyword, every ad and campaign you are running. This way you will be able to weed out the non performers and replace with the right words to produce the results you want.

Of course tracking requires you to have set your goals and what you wish to achieve. You need to be able to compare your results to what you wish to attain. You need to establish what your desired activities are. Generally this is your thank you page. That’s where you want your users to finally end up.

Google provides a host of tools for you to use to track the campaigns you have set up using Google’s AdWords. Once set up it requires you to insert code in the relevant spaces.

The first time you set up the system it’ll take some time, but soon you’ll be able to track your advertising with ease. Now you’ll be functioning as a smart advertiser who doesn’t waste money. You’ll know just how each of your ads has performed so that you can spend money on the campaigns that give good results and cancel campaigns that don’t work adequately.
