A comprehensive effort to build search engine traffic involves the development of inbound links from other websites and blogs that use specific words or phrases in the anchor text of those links. These specific words or phrases are the keywords you select as appropriate for your site.
There are two important reasons to develop a keyword driven link creation strategy. One is that you can develop a significant number of inbound links from various websites. The second is that because your links are coming in via your keywords the source of the links will tend to be on the same or similar topic.
Having your links arrive from blogs and sites that have content related or on the same topic as your blog is a significant advantage. Google considers these links to be relevant and awards a higher ranking to them resulting in your blog receiving a higher PageRank.
Of course a further benefit is the traffic you receive via search. You will benefit from the higher PageRank and the authority that your links give your blog. This will result in your blog coming up higher in searches for the keywords you are using for your sites. Do remember though that this does not apply to very popular keywords where you are unable to compete against the big boys.
It is relatively straight forward to use keywords. Research your range of keywords to see whether it is of use for you to use them. As already mentioned, highly popular keywords are not something you should chose. You will not be able to compete against well established sites using these words.
Once you have selected your keywords or keyword phrases you need to write some good articles using these keywords in a sensible way. This means that you keep your keywords use to the title, one mention in the opening paragraph and once in the final paragraph.
If your article is particularly long, say more than 600 or so words, then you may insert one more set of keywords. Do not overload your articles as search engines will tag your site as being spam.
Also remember that you do not want to write too many articles using the same keywords. This may also be construed to be spam by Google and Yahoo amongst many search engines active on the internet.
Once you have uploaded your keyword enriched article submit it to as many social networking sites you are a member of. In particular also submit your article to networking sites that promote articles within your niche. You may have less traffic through but the quality of your visitor will be much higher. More interested readers will mean a higher chance of a link back to your article.
Persitant promotion of these pages with their keyword rich articles may eventually result in such heavy traffic coming through that they become landing pages for your blog by default. You may end up with several such landing pages.
Choosing the right keywords, marketing the post through social media thus creating significant number of inbound links will end up providing you with a long-term asset whether for the traffic or for the PageRank or both.
