Get The Rubber Stamp
Posted September 11th, 2009

One high profile blogger mentioned a free report that another blogger was offering. He mentioned this in a one liner on his blog. The blogger with the free report had his report downloaded 15 000 within the first hour of that rubber stamp being brought down.
Of course it helped that the high profile blogger is the most read blog on marketing around. But what a rubber stamp to get.
Would you be more famous if you had a beer with the President of the United States in the White House or with Joe Blogs down the road in the local pub? Do you think you would be considered quite a catch if you were seen dating somebody has high profile as Angelina Jolie?
What about if you hung around with and enjoyed a dinner with some internet marketing celebrities such as Shoemoney? Would that provide you with some authority?
Of course it would. It’s the same principle that you saw at school when you were growing up. The cute kids had a whole bunch of people around them because they all hoped that they would get some reflected glory. And you do get it.
As with the offline world where it certainly counts as to who your friends are and who your business associates might be, the online world requires you to be noticed by some of the big names.
In fact how did the big names make it online? They spent their time hanging out at industry conferences. They had the beers with other people in their niche and the speakers at the conference. And that general mixing got them an invitation to speak at the next conference.
Suddenly they are perceived to be the authority on the topic that they present. Of course they had to be able to speak with knowledge on their subject. It’s not possible to fake it for any length of time.
What it does mean is that you need to hang out with the experts and mix with them. Can’t afford to go to conferences? No problem. The internet allows you to contribute and converse with any number of people on a continuous basis.
That means you use your Twitter, your social networking space such as Facebook and you become well known as a social bookmarking player. That doesn’t mean you hover around leaving inane comments such as ‘Great post’, ‘Nice comment’, ‘Totally agree’ and more.
You need to participate effectively. Your comments have to be on topic and intelligent. It has to be apparent that you want to hold an intelligent conversation and not just be a groupie. There are many of those around. They don’t get to count too much.
The best way to make yourself noticed is by leaving relevant commentary, striking up intelligent conversation and giving credit where credit is due. If the blogger has written a good article, and most of the top bloggers tend to, because that’s what makes them a top blogger in their field, then give credit. Everybody likes to receive praise.
Get that rubber stamp. It will be worth every bit of effort to get that approval.
